Urad dal powder (Ulundu Maavu – உளுந்து மாவு in Tamil) is a must to prepare many south Indian snacks like muruku, thattai, seedai etc. As the quantity of urad dal powder needed to prepare snacks is less, it is better to make it at home.
Method
- Clean urad dal first to remove impurities like small stone etc.
- Dry roast it in a hot empty pan till it becomes slightly red in colour in low or medium flame; this can be felt by the nice aroma coming while roasting.
- Cool it.
- Powder it in a mixer-grinder to a fine powder consistency.
- Sieve it.
- Keep this Urad Dal (Skinned Black Gram) Powder/Ulundu Maavu in a airtight container for further use.
